Moto X Play may launch in India on 14 September

Update: E-commerce giant Flipkart had reportedly put up a special page for the Moto X Play which included a countdown timer. However, the website has taken down the page for reasons unknown. The timer suggested that the phone would be available in India on September 14 at 2PM via Flipkart.

Motorola India has sent out two tweets hinting at the probable launch of the new generation Moto X, most likely Moto X Play. The Moto X Play and Moto X Style were launched in the US on the same day that the Moto G (3rd gen) was announced in India.

The timing of the teaser is important as it has come out after two weeks of the Moto X Play having been spotted on the Zauba listings of imported devices. The listing shows a smartphone codenamed Motorola XT1562 which has been shipped to India for testing purposes.

The Zauba listing shows units of the black and white models of Motorola XT1562 sporting 32GB storage. While the unit price has been shown as Rs 22,228, there is no clarity if this is indeed the official price tag of the Moto X Play.

At the international launch of the Moto X devices, Motorola didn’t announce their official prices, considering it was a simultaneous launch across three different continents. But post the event, according to The Guardian, the Moto X Play would be priced at £299 which is approx Rs 30,000 and the Moto X Style would be priced at £359 or approx Rs 36,000.

The Moto X Play will come with a 5.5-inch full HD display thereby giving it a pixel density of 400 ppi. Moto X Play will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC featuring a 1.7GHz octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Just like the Moto X Style, this will also feature 4G LTE support, Android 5.1.1 with the same Motorola software features, 21MP rear and 5MP front facing camera.

The video capture mode of the the Moto X Play is limited to full HD mode and its front camera won’t get a dedicate flash unit. But the Play will come with a staggering 3,630mAh battery which according to Motorola will offer a 48 hours of mixed use time. The Moto X Play is expected to come in 16GB and 32GB variants only with the option to expand the storage via a microSD card slot.
